INDEX speaks with Ronel Jordaan, an artist, aritsan, creator of artworks, installations and bespoke peices using different textiles. She runs her own textile business called Ronel Jordaan Textiles in South Africa and had worked with INDEX in 2017.
Ronel Jordaan is inspired by nature. Through the medium of felted wool, her original designs playfully and eloquently echo organic forms and textures.
These elements infuse a home with the comforting serenity, purity and beauty of the outdoors. In a conscious effort to alleviate unemployment amongst women living in the city townships, the company is dedicated to transference of skills, eco-friendly processes and celebration of respect for the environment.
1. Why did you decide to join this collaboration?
We believe that showcasing and collaborating with other companies has great benefits for all. We admire the marketing done by companies like dmg events and the work of Scarlet Opus - creating a concept area we believe draws potential clients by giving them an interesting view of what they might not have imagined before.
2. How have you worked together and how do you feel about this collaboration with the INDEX show?
We have been very fortunate to have been connected with Boxmark by Phil Pond of Scarlet Opus. This opportunity to collaborate has made new product developments possible for me. Boxmark has kindly donated 7 massive pelts for development which is greatly appreciated. As a small company based in South Africa this collaboration opens many opportunities for us.
3. What inspired your design work for the feature that you are a part of?
One of our best selling products are the rock cushions inspired and developed by us in 2004. I wanted to create a variation on this theme and so the “Gemstones’ where conceived.
4. What do you hope to gain from being a part of INDEX 2018?
Our target market is architects and interior decorators and we believe INDEX is the best platform in the Middle East and in the world to gain access to the hospitality market. With Dubai being the center for interior, architectural, and development INDEX is our preferred exhibition.
