The theme of micro living is being celebrated at INDEX this coming September. The demand for tiny homes is at an all-time high, and whether the choice is made for financial cost saving purposes, to reduce carbon footprint, simpler lifestyle or to get into that particularly popular urban neighborhood we are seeing the trend grow exponentially.

With the rise in micro-living we see the need for ‘clever’ multi-purpose or flexible furniture, clever designs and layouts.

This year’s Design Hub, brought to you by INDEX and Scarlet Opus will focus on this trend with a selection of features from curated collections, artistic experiences, trend focused seminars and some exclusive debuts.

Make sure to plan some time into your busy schedule to include at least one of the short talks taking place in the Design Hub talk’s space.

Each session will be a short burst of inspiration lasting no more than 30min but providing you with valuable advice and knowledge that you can take away.

The daily talks will cover these themes: Future Design Trend Talks, Experiential Design Talks, Biophilic Design and Mall Retail Merchandising.

Speakers to look forward to include Wayne Taylor the founder of Space Zero, a global interior design consultancy, Victoria Redshaw of Scarlet Opus, Interface, a Dubai retail consultancy and Sticky Red Visual Merchandising.

A wonderful international artistic collaboration between Scarlet Opus, Lawton Yarns in the UK, Ronel Jordaan in South Africa, Boxmark Leathers and Best Wool Carpets.

Make your way over to the innovative ‘Wool Waterfall’ installation at INDEX, made from over 100 kilograms of wool supplied and dyed by Lawton Yarns. The ‘waterfall’ will flow over leather rocks (designed and made by Ronel Jordaan using leather supplied by Boxmark Leathers) in what will be an inspirational and interactive feature. Visitors are encouraged to remove their shoes and walk through the wool fall experiencing the many different textiles all working together.

INDEX & Scarlet Opus will be collaborating with Tashkeel to bring you a curated selection of design led furniture that will be on display in the Design Hub.

Established in Dubai in 2008 by Lateefa bint Maktoum, Tashkeel seeks to provide a nurturing environment for the growth of contemporary art and design practice rooted in the UAE. Through multi-disciplinary studios, work spaces and galleries, it enables creative practice, experimentation and dialogue among practitioners and the wider community.

Designer Matthew Pope from the UK in a collaboration with Boxmark (Austrian Leather Manufacturer) & Scarlet Opus, has designed a high-end and high-quality flexible sofa and Boxmark has worked to produce some textures and metallic finishes never before been seen on leather.

In keeping with our ‘micro living’ theme and the very visible increase in veganism and vegetarianism, INDEX and Scarlet Opus have teamed up with new start up from France called Veritable to bring you the ‘Veritable Micro Garden’. Planted and grown specifically for INDEX this September, this vertical self-sufficient salad and herb garden is not only perfect for micro living but any kind of low maintenance living as it requires little or no care being self-watering and mimicking the sun by providing light and heat.
